Phi Phi Resort
OK, so this is the Phi Phi resort... it don't look so good. But do you know where Phi Phi is? It's a little island... not the Thai mainland. Still, so sad.
What's it really like there?
OK, so we've seen the horrible news and video. The damages and fatalities were devastating. But check out the real status of major hotels and resorts in Thailand. A lot of damage was obviously incurred. This thing was huge. But a couple of days ago, the Drudge headline "Sunbathing in Hell" wasn't completely true. It looks like damage was localized. In some places, it hit hard, but in others, just a few miles down the beach, they got a few larger than average wave, and then everyone shrugged and looked at the sun. What would probably help Thailand more than your donations, if you've really got the change, is a visit to some of these resorts to support the Thai tourism industry.
